We cruised into the Port Everglades inlet, with a very larger freighter to port, at 3:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, completing our first 43 hour passage. What a great way to begin a day of giving thanks.

Our dear friends Tim and Veronica invited us to join them for a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner at their home. The day was filled with laughter, wine, delicious food and great friends. We all agreed that Thanksgiving was our favorite holiday because of what it stood for— taking a day to pause in our normally busy lives, and reflect on all that we have to be thankful for.

As a family, we always try to be grateful for all the wonderful people in our lives, the great experiences we have, and the things we are fortunate to possess. However, this year we are almost overwhelmed by all we have to be thankful for, from the good health of our family and friends; to the amazing myriad of people who have helped us to make our dream come true; to the sell of our home and purchase of our new floating home; and now the successful first few weeks of cruising. For all of this and more, we give our heartfelt thanks…..

On a slightly different Thanksgiving note, while making our run in the Atlantic along the Florida coast, Ayla and I were able to make a Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Pie both with homemade crusts, along with my grandmother’s homemade dinner rolls (a holiday tradition in our family) and a cranberry chutney. The all turned out surprising well.
