To sum it up…uneventful. Just the way we like it!
-Leaving through the Port Everglades inlet at 1:00 a.m. was the most intense part of the trip. We needed to leave at that hour to have a rising tide and the sun overhead for our entry point into Alice Town on North Bimini. Port Everglades was hopping with huge ships coming and going at that hour — it was a little intimidating doing it in the dark.
– Our weather window was ideal for crossing the Gulf Stream with 1 to 2 foot seas, light winds out of the east and good visibility. Thanks to Tim Benoit for being our weather instructor and consultant.
– Our radar had lots of contacts on it since this is a bustling seaway with cruise ships and plenty of freighters.
– Navigating the channel into Bimini Harbor was a little challenging, but we picked our way through thanks to good sunlight. The water color is distracting it’s so beautiful.
-Customs and immigration turned out to be a breeze. Of course, that was probably helped by the fact that we had all the right paperwork and information ready to go. Dilly was allowed in with no problem, which made us all happy.
