The Blue Hole

Here it is!” Geneva and I, with birds on our feet, flew down the last steps of the hill with AnnMarie, Brady, Erin, and Brian close at our heels.

“Wow!” The six of us came to a halt at the edge of the clear water. shallow sand the color of a peach lead off to a 395 foot drop straight to the bottom of the ocean. We studied the hole from afar for a few more minutes, then decided to take the plunge.

“I can probably stand all the way to the hole!” Brian commented, looking at the shallow sandbar.

“All of us can.” Erin said, adjusting her mask to be just right. We all had our snorkel gear on and ready.

“Ok!” AnnMarie called, and we took the plunge. The feeling was downright eerie. You ere swimming over sand that you could have stood in, the BAM, right there was nothing. When I looked down, all I could see was open black. In the middle of the hole was a raft where the others had made their way to. I kicked the last several feet and hoisted myself up onto it.

“That is so cool!” I shrieked once my snorkel was out of my mouth.

“Most certainly.” Brady agree. SPLASH! We all turned to look where it had come from. Above the raft was a cliff at least 50 feet high. A man had just thrust himself off, ending up in the water. He surfaced with a grin on his face. The six of us did not even have to exchange words. In a nano-second, we were off the raft and running from the beach to the cliffs. For future reference, hiking on coral rock (often called honeycomb down here in the bahamas) without shoes is not the best idea. The hike was a bit tedious, but we reached the top in full spirit.

“Ok!” We lined up at the cliff. As I looked over the edge, i could just see the round black circle I was about to throw myself into. SPLASH! Brady had thrown himself off. SPLASH! There went Erin. SPLASH! Off went Geneva. SPLASH! AnnMarie was down. It was my turn. I looked over the edge, took a deep breath, and squeezed my eyes shut.  I jumped. The feeling was exhilarating. You felt like you were flying and tumbling all at the same time. KABOOM! I hit the water with a loud splash and surfaced with a wide smile on my face. I heard a splash behind me. Brian was in. We had all succeeded in the cliff diving challenge. The Blue hole was a fun experience for friends, and for our adventurous spirit.

Pictures Coming Soon!!!!!!!
