Tropic of Cancer is Cause for a…PARTY!!!!!!!!

Publish Date: Saturday, February 14, 2009
If you thought Movie Night sounded like an all out party, it was nothing compared to the Tropic of Cancer party. On January the 24th, Three @ Sea crossed into the tropics for the first time. Of course, this was cause for major celebration. We invited GottaLife (Erin, Geneva, and their parents Brian and Sheryl), Rio Dulce (Brady, AnnMarie, Brian, and their parents Dick and MaryAnne), and More Cowbell (Sam and his parents, Dave, and Dana). Yes, a lot of people.

A few hours before the party, Brian from GottaLife took all the kids over in the dingy to a beach nearby our boats. On this beach, we made grass skirts! Well, we said we made grass skirts, it was really just a mini beach party. If you have ever made a grass skirt from palm frawns completely by scratch, you will agree with me that it is harder than it seems! Mine fell apart several times, as did everyone else’s.

So, we had our grass skirts, our tropical shirts, and our tropical headdresses, which meant: PARTY! The party started around 5:00, and went until midnight! All of the kids enjoyed time dancing up on the boat deck. Dad had strung up our colorful christmas light out on the deck, so the whole boat had a very festive feel. Dancing was a major part of the night. Around 10:00, everyone came up to the boat deck to have a dance party! We got super wild as we jumped up and down pumping our fists in the air. Awesome! I will always remember MaryAnne form Rio Dulce doing the robot, and then she and Dick dancing together during Mambo #5. They can definitely dance! We all had a great time with lots of wonderful laughter.

Another awesome piece of tropical party was the Tropical trivia. Another chance for us to get totally wild with trivia. The questions ranged from ocean to tropical, and everyone had a great time. See if you can answer any of the following! I’ll post the answers in a few days.

  1. How many countries does the equator run through?
  2. Who are the roman and greek gods of the sea?
  3. What is the state fish of Hawaii
  4. What shark commonly seen in the bahamas is referred to as “The Labrador Retriever of the ocean”?
  5. What defines the tropics?
  6. What is the deepest part of the ocean?
  7. What is the largest fish on earth?
  8. Who was the gulf stream first mapped by?

You can write the answers down, and check them when I post the final answers!

So, in all, the night of the Tropic of Cancer party was the most fun ever! I hope Three @ Sea crosses into the tropics again sometime soon…

I think I am also blog about my vacations this summer! I will be going to Virginia Beach about 4-8 times, Florida where we will visit West Palm Beach, Miami, and Key West and Cape Cod, although it’s not as cool as traveling the world on a boat and we drive all the way to Key West from Connecticut!!!!
