This past week, Three@Sea was moored near Boston, and we got to spend a fantastic few days on the beautiful streets of this historic city. I had never been to Boston before, and I was so awed and excited by what I saw, that I can’t wait to go back. It is amazing how much incredible history this city has, and how much it contributed to the founding of our country.
One of the best parts of the few days in Boston was walking The Freedom Trail. This trail is 2.5 miles long, and covers everything from “no taxation without representation” to “the redcoats are coming!” Every step you take, you emerge further into the amazing realm of American History.
One of my favorite locations was Faneuil Hall. This incredible building has lots of facinating stories
to go with it. The best is the story about the weathervane: If you glance at the gold weathervane on top of Faneuil Hall, it doesn’t really look like much. However, at the time of the American Revolution all the Boston locals knew that this weather vane was in the shape of a grasshopper. Of course, the British spies did not know this piece of trivia. To nose out the spies who had infiltrated them, the locals would ask unfamiliar people what the weathervane’s design was. All of the true patriots knew, but the British spies did not! What a cool piece of historical trivia!
I also really enjoyed seeing Paul Revere’s house. It is still set up and decorated as it would have been when Paul Revere lived there. Did you know he had sixteen kids between his two wives? His house isn’t all that big…
I really enjoyed walking the Freedom Trail, and learning some hidden tidbits about American History. If you’re ever in Boston, definitely check it out to see what other little known facts you might discover!
